2 piece forged wheels: the short answer
2 piece forged wheels join a forged center (face and spokes) to a forged barrel with a bolted (sometimes welded) joint. You get two major parts instead of three, so there is one assembly flange rather than separate outer lip and inner barrel halves. That sits between a monoblock and 3 piece wheels.
“2 piece” is construction. “Forged” is process. A 2 piece cast wheel also exists; a forged 2 piece starts from forged blanks for both center and barrel. Compare constructions in our 2 piece vs 3 piece guide.
| 2 piece forged | Monoblock forged | 3 piece forged | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Parts | Center + barrel | One piece | Lip + center + inner |
| Joints | One flange | None | Two flanges |
| Lip depth | Limited by barrel tooling | Limited by blank/machining | Often deepest modular lips |
| Repair | Barrel or center can sometimes be replaced | Whole wheel | Lip/barrel sections swappable |
| Maintenance | One joint to seal/torque | No joint hardware | Two joints |
Why choose forged 2 piece wheels?
- Custom face design with a barrel width suited to the car
- Easier barrel replacement than a monoblock after curb damage (when the maker supports it)
- Simpler than 3 piece when you do not need a separate deep outer lip
- True forged structure in both major parts when specified as forged
Weight and strength still depend on design and load rating, not the “2 piece” label alone. For magnesium options and material trade-offs, see magnesium vs aluminum.
2 piece vs monoblock vs 3 piece in practice
Pick monoblock when you want the simplest structure and no joint hardware. Pick 2 piece when you want a custom forged face with a separate barrel that can be serviced or re-width’d within the maker’s system. Pick 3 piece when deep or stepped outer lips are the priority and you accept two sealed flanges.
None of those labels replace a load rating. Ask for the rating that matches your vehicle mass and use, and confirm brake clearance on the drawing before you approve production.

Fitment still comes first
Construction does not fix a bad offset. Use the offset calculator, confirm PCD and hub bore, and check brakes. Flush goals are covered in flush fitment.
2 piece forged wheels FAQ
What are 2 piece forged wheels?
Wheels with a forged center bolted (or joined) to a forged barrel as two major parts.
Are 2 piece wheels better than 3 piece?
Different tools for different builds. 2 piece is simpler; 3 piece usually wins on modular deep lips.
Do 2 piece wheels use sealant?
Bolted 2 piece designs typically seal the joint; follow the maker’s service guidance.
Is 2 piece the same as stepped lip?
No. Stepped lips are a shape option more often associated with 3 piece builds.
Can VEXORA make 2 piece forged wheels?
Yes, as custom forged aluminum or magnesium sets when the brief calls for two-piece construction. Every VEXORA set is made to order, and custom orders start from a single pair. MOQ: 1 pair (2 wheels). Production typically takes approximately 20 days once the specification, drawings and finish are approved, confirmed per project. Shipping time varies by destination country. Where DDP (Delivered Duty Paid) is available for your country, orders ship DDP: import duties and taxes are handled and the wheels are delivered to your door.
